Position Description Who We Are Calvary United Methodist Church is a progressive, racially integrated urban congregation located in the Cedar Park neighborhood of West/Southwest Philadelphia. We are a Reconciling Congregation within the United Methodist Church, designated as such in 1985 to formally and intentionally proclaim our acceptance and affirmation of LGBTQIA+ persons. Qualifications/Expectations
skilled pianist, with at least some experience playing piano for group/congregational singing
basic familiarity and experience with sacred/church music
expressed support of the overall mission and values of the congregation
commitment to inclusive/expansive language with musical offerings
Desired Qualifications
skilled in playing a second instrument
competent vocalist
some experience directing choirs
Responsibilities
provide musical accompaniment for Sunday hybrid/virtual worship (hours: approximately 10:45 am to 12:45 pm); note that worship is currently virtual-only the last Sunday of every month
help select/provide “special music” offering for weekly worship, in consultation and cooperation with volunteer choir coordinator and small Calvary choir
weekly communication/meeting with the pastor to coordinate music for worship (in person or virtual)
Time Commitment
2-3 hours per week, primarily (if not entirely) on Sundays
Compensation/Benefits
$100 per week
four paid Sundays off each year; additional unpaid Sundays off can be negotiated
