Lenten Offerings

Beyond our Ash Wednesday service on February 17th, 7 pm (Zoom details same as for Sunday worship), check out either or both of the following weekly opportunities as part of your Lenten journey. All are welcome, even if you can't make it every week!
Lent Reflection Group
Sunday evenings, 7-8 pm (February 21 - April 4)
  •  The Lent Reflection Group is using "The Poetry of Lent: A Lenten Companion to Mary Oliver's 'Devotions'" as a basis for contemplative exercise and reflection. NOTE: You don't need "Devotions: The Selected Poems of Mary Oliver" to participate (though you might enjoy having your own copy!), and you're also welcome to use the resource on your own if you can't join the group.
  • Contact Lauren Ballester or Jennine Miller if you have any questions. Below are details to connect to each week's gathering via Zoom:
    • online / phone: 267-831-0333 (Meeting ID: 834 4431 8926 / Passcode: 642524)

Lenten Devotional Series for Dismantling White Supremacy
Monday evenings, 7-8 pm (February 22 - April 5)
  • Join us for a lectionary-based devotional and discussion series using "Resipiscence: A Lenten Devotional for Dismantling White Supremacy." Members of Calvary's Racial Justice Working Group are hosting the series, open to all (i.e. it's not just for white folks).
  • Please contact Eriks Dunens to sign up. An electronic version of the devotional is free (we'll send you a PDF, and Zoom details, after you sign up); if you prefer a hard copy, you can order using the link above ($20, including shipping).

A PURIFICATION - WENDELL BERRY
At start of spring I open a trench
In the ground. I put into it
The winter’s accumulation of paper,
Pages I do not want to read
Again, useless words, fragments,
errors. And I put into it
the contents of the outhouse:
light of the suns, growth of the ground,
Finished with one of their journeys.
To the sky, to the wind, then,
and to the faithful trees, I confess
my sins: that I have not been happy
enough, considering my good luck;
have listened to too much noise,
have been inattentive to wonders,
have lusted after praise.
And then upon the gathered refuse,
of mind and body, I close the trench
folding shut again the dark,
the deathless earth. Beneath that seal
the old escapes into the new.
