Calvary hosts a monthly, in-person Community Rhythm Circle (CRC) the 2nd Thursday of every month, 7-8:15 pm - nurturing a spirit of connection, community-building and healing.
All are welcome - no drumming or rhythm experience is required. Please use the 48th Street entrance (see accessibility details below). Masks required until further notice.
The CRC will be led by West Philly drummer, Jan Jeffries, and others! Jan - aka 'Ms. Rhythm Speaker' - is all about "soulful beatz rhythms." She has traveled throughout the world, performed, taught and composed with people of all ages and special needs. An award-winning percussionist, she's led drumming for various public concerts and marches - and continues to perform, record and teach. Jan has recorded and/or performed with (among others): Better Days, Solomon Dub, Fostina Dixon, Monnette Sudler, Sharon Katz and the Peace Train, North American Bush Band, John Kruz and Makana. Whether it's keeping the rhythm with her feet and sticks or skin on skins, Jan says word is, "Don't Break the Rhythm!"
Participants are encouraged to bring their own rhythm instruments (of any kind, drums or otherwise), but some extras will be available.
There is no cost to participate, though donations - online or during each CRC - are encouraged to help offset expenses.
ACCESSIBILITY: Our building is wheelchair-accessible with a lift that takes guests from the ground level outside (the red door at the corner of 48th & Baltimore) up to our sanctuary and church office, and down to restrooms, classrooms and our Fellowship Hall (including kitchen). The door requires a code so if you're coming and require use of the lift, please email Pastor Tim in advance of your visit so we can coordinate details.
